Iowa City: Salvation Army Opens as Cooling Station during Summer 2017

You might not have noticed, but it's terribly hot right now in Iowa City. It's baking hot. It's oppressively hot. It's just really hot. Fortunately, the Salvation Army of Johnson County has offered itself as a cooling station to the Iowa City community:
Starting Monday, the facility at 1116 S. Gilbert Court opened its lobby and will remain open throughout the summer during extreme temperatures. Water will be offered from 9-11:30  a.m. and during the evening meal, served 4-6 p.m. Monday through Friday
Mid-morning is a challenging time for Iowa City's homeless and housing insecure residents. The Shelter House makes most of its residents leave the building by 9:00 AM. And the Free Lunch and Crisis Center programs don't open to the public until 11:30 AM.
